AFTER

FAUST

Featuring five Deaf actors from across Canada and directed by Ebony R. Gooden, After Faust was The Invisible Practice’s first original production.

Many know the classic tragedy of Doctor Faustus, who made a deal with a demon and ultimately gave up his soul. But few have asked the question, “what happened to the demon Mephistopheles after?”

Performed in ASL by a Deaf cast, After Faust surfaces the oft-painful choices that lay along the path of forgiveness and self-transformation.

Mustafa kneels behind a small mossy boulder with a bright red mushroom with white dots. He is about to touch it with a wondrous gaze. The scene is light in green with deep darkness beyond.
After Faust is the work of a highly original writer and thinker. And Gooden’s high theatrical production introduces us to the work of a whole new troupe of Deaf actors.
